Total Ascent 2012

Whenever you are out on a trek/hike the total ascent is nearly always greater than the height difference. The height difference is what it says, the difference between the lowest point and the highest point - e.g. if you start a walk at an altitude of 0ft and finish at 100ft then the height difference is 100ft. If however, halfway through the walk you go up and down a hill that is 50ft high then the height difference will remain at 100ft but the Total Ascent will be 150ft. I therefore thought that it might be quite interesting to monitor the combined Total Ascent for all the walking that I do during 2012, and every month or so I will update the 'Running Total Counters' on this post :
